Hey everyone!
So I've been thinking about the fluff for this game.
As many of you will already know I have featured a good number of short stories on my blog: www.newfairbank.blogspot.com
- those who don't know, go check it out!
And I've been thinking of how the fluff should be represented in the final game.
My initial thought is that the main book should include the short stories. Lots of little ones all over the place to give a general idea of what the world that's been created is like.
My second thought is that each 'expansion' should then feature an on going story. Short stories if you will, but with the same characters as they progress through the Dark Below.
The idea behind this is that it gives narrative in the form of a party of say 5 characters as they explore, acquire epic loot and fight the various monsters of the crypts.
The question however stands: who should be the characters that are featured in the ongoing narrative?
Should the story be told from the viewpoint of a whole newly created posse formed of previously unknown characters, or should the story follow Alpha Posse comprising of The characters from the Pre-Generated Characters pack?
Obviously the game lends itself towards the latter, as these characters are created, you're all familiar with them, what a better way to explore the expanding story?
...
...
...
...yeah
We have 1 problem with that:
2 of the characters, the first of which the story was not written by me because as try as I might I was unable to get into the character's head and so it was written by the character's conceiver. The second character in question is one who has yet to be included within the pre-gen pack because I'm still waiting it's creator to sign off the story, so the end result may be one like the former where I'm unable to write for them convincingly.
Creating a whole new posse removes all of those problems as they can be written from the ground up, their backstory told organically.
I would welcome your thoughts and suggestions on this.
